Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 21, 2026

RETICLE ("RETICLE," "we," "us," or "our") is a trading-discipline and journaling platform operated by J.E. Walsh, based in Alberta, Canada. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over it.

We are committed to handling your personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). This policy is written to be clear and straightforward. If anything here is unclear, contact us using the details at the end.

By creating an account or using RETICLE, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this policy.

1. Who we are and how to reach us

RETICLE is operated by J.E. Walsh (Alberta, Canada). For any privacy question, request, or complaint, our designated privacy contact is:

Privacy Officer — RETICLE Email: privacy@reticletrade.com

We are responsible for the personal information under our control and will respond to privacy requests as required by applicable Canadian law.

2. What personal information we collect

We collect only the information we need to provide the platform. Today, that includes:

Information you give us when you create an account

  • Email address
  • Full name
  • Display name (the name shown on your RETICLE profile)
  • Country
  • A password (which we store only as a securely hashed value — we never store your password in readable form)
  • Your communication preferences (for example, whether you opt in to product updates)

Information you create while using RETICLE

  • Trade plans, setups, and checklist entries
  • Journal entries and post-trade notes
  • Trading accounts you set up within RETICLE for record-keeping and the data associated with them
  • Discipline-related data and scores that the platform generates from how you use it

Information related to your subscription

  • Your subscription status and plan, your trial or plan state, and the customer and subscription references our payment processor assigns to you. We do not receive or store your card number — see "Payments and brokerage connections" below.

Information you give us if you connect a brokerage account (optional)

  • The API credentials for your own paper (simulated) brokerage account, if you choose to connect one. These are stored encrypted and are never displayed back to you after you enter them. See "Payments and brokerage connections" below for how this works and how to disconnect.

Information collected automatically for security and operation

  • Basic technical and log information needed to operate the service securely and reliably (for example, authentication session data and standard server logs). We use this to keep your account secure and to keep the platform running — not to build advertising profiles.

We do not currently run third-party web analytics or advertising trackers on RETICLE. If this changes, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent before such tracking begins.

3. Payments and brokerage connections

Payments. RETICLE offers paid subscriptions. Payments are processed by Stripe, our third-party payment processor. When you subscribe, you enter your card details on Stripe's own hosted checkout page — your card number never passes through RETICLE's systems and is never stored by us. Stripe collects and processes those details under its own privacy policy and security standards. What we store is limited to what we need to run your subscription: a Stripe customer reference, a subscription reference, your subscription status, and your trial or plan state. We share your email address with Stripe so it can identify your account.

Brokerage connections — paper (simulated) trading only. RETICLE can place trades that you plan, at your direction, on a paper brokerage account. Paper trading is simulated: the orders are placed against a broker's practice environment using simulated money. RETICLE has no live-money trading capability. It cannot place an order against a real-money brokerage account, and it cannot move, hold, or withdraw funds. This is a limit built into the platform, not a setting.

If you choose to connect your own paper brokerage account, you provide us with the API credentials for that account, and we store them so RETICLE can act on your instructions. Those credentials are encrypted before they are stored, are never displayed back to you or to our staff after you enter them, and are never shared with anyone else. We verify them with the broker when you connect them, so that a mistyped or revoked key fails immediately rather than silently.

You are in control of that connection. You can disconnect a brokerage account at any time from your account settings, which revokes the credentials we hold for it. Replacing them overwrites the old ones. Deleting your RETICLE account deletes them along with everything else.

Connecting a brokerage account is optional. You can use RETICLE's planning, journaling, and review features without connecting one.

4. How we use your information

We use your personal information to:

  • Create and manage your account and authenticate you securely
  • Provide the platform's core features — planning, discipline tracking, and journaling
  • Maintain the security and integrity of the service
  • Respond to your questions and support requests
  • Send you service-related messages (for example, account or security notices)
  • Send product updates or other non-essential messages only if you have opted in, and you can opt out at any time
  • Comply with our legal obligations

We use your information only for the purposes described in this policy, or for purposes you would reasonably consider consistent with them. If we ever want to use it for a materially different purpose, we will ask for your consent first.

We collect, use, and disclose your personal information with your consent. By creating an account and providing your information, you consent to the handling described in this policy. For sensitive information or new purposes, we will seek your express consent.

You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. To withdraw consent, contact our Privacy Officer. Note that withdrawing consent for information that is necessary to operate your account may mean we can no longer provide the service to you.

6. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

We share information only in these limited circumstances:

  • Service providers. We use trusted third-party providers to host and operate RETICLE (see "Where your information is stored" below). They may process your information only to provide services to us, under obligations to protect it.
  • Our payment processor. When you subscribe, we share your email address with Stripe so it can identify your account and process your payment. Stripe handles your card details directly, under its own privacy policy.
  • Your broker, at your direction. If you connect your own paper brokerage account, we send the credentials you provided to that broker in order to verify the connection and to place the trades you instruct. We share nothing else with them, and we do not share your RETICLE account information with them.
  • Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or a lawful government request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of RETICLE, our users, or others.
  • Business transfer. If RETICLE is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.

Affiliate links. RETICLE displays links to proprietary-trading firms, some of which are affiliate links. If you click one and sign up with that firm, we may earn a commission. When you click an affiliate link, you leave RETICLE and any information you then provide is handled by that firm under its privacy policy, not ours. We do not share your RETICLE account information with those firms.

7. Where your information is stored (cross-border transfer)

RETICLE uses service providers located in the United States to host the platform and store data:

  • Database hosting: Neon (data stored in the United States, on Amazon Web Services infrastructure)
  • Application hosting: Vercel (United States)
  • Payment processing: Stripe (United States) — receives your email address and handles your card details directly
  • Paper brokerage: Alpaca (United States) — receives the paper-account credentials you choose to connect, and the trade instructions you direct RETICLE to place

This means your personal information is stored and processed in the United States. By using RETICLE, you acknowledge that your information is transferred to and stored in the United States, where it may be accessible to U.S. courts, law-enforcement agencies, and regulatory authorities under U.S. law. We rely on these providers' security practices and contractual protections to safeguard your information while it is in their care.

If you have questions about cross-border storage, contact our Privacy Officer.

8. How we protect your information

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including:

  • Storing passwords only as securely hashed values, never in plain text
  • Encrypting brokerage credentials before they are stored, so they are not readable in our database, and never displaying them back to you or to our staff after you enter them
  • Encrypted connections (HTTPS) for data in transit
  • Access controls that limit who can reach the underlying systems
  • Reliance on reputable hosting providers with their own security programs

No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach involving your personal information that poses a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by PIPEDA and Alberta PIPA.

9. How long we keep your information

We keep your personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here — generally, for as long as you maintain an account, plus a reasonable period afterward to meet legal, security, or record-keeping requirements. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data (see "Your rights" below).

10. Your rights

Under Canadian privacy law, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete
  • Withdraw consent to our use of your information (subject to the limits noted above)
  • Request deletion of your account and associated personal information
  • Ask questions about how your information is handled, and make a complaint

To exercise any of these rights, contact our Privacy Officer at privacy@reticletrade.com. We will respond within the timeframes required by law. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.

How to delete your account and data

You can delete your RETICLE account and its data yourself, at any time, without contacting us.

Option A — delete it yourself (immediate)

  1. Sign in to RETICLE and go to your Account page.
  2. Scroll to the Danger Zone section at the bottom.
  3. Select Delete my account.
  4. Type your account email address exactly as shown, to confirm.
  5. Select the confirm button. Your account is deleted immediately and you are signed out.

This works even if your trial has ended and your account is in read-only mode.

Option B — ask us to delete it

Email privacy@reticletrade.com from the email address on your account and ask us to delete it. We may need to confirm your identity before acting.

What deletion removes

Deleting your account permanently removes your account record and the data attached to it, including your profile details, your trades and journal entries, your plans and precision setups, your record-keeping accounts, any brokerage credentials you connected, and the references to any media you uploaded. This cannot be undone, and we cannot restore it afterward.

What is not removed, and why

  • Uploaded files in our media storage. Deleting your account removes our records pointing to any images you uploaded, but the stored files themselves are not yet removed automatically. If you want those deleted as well, email privacy@reticletrade.com and we will remove them.
  • A minimal deletion record. We write a short server-log entry noting that an account was deleted, and when, so that deletions are auditable and cannot be denied. This is kept for security and record-keeping purposes only.
  • Anything we must keep by law. If a law requires us to retain specific information for a period, we keep only what is required and delete the rest.

Deleting your RETICLE account does not close or affect any account you hold with another service, including a brokerage or proprietary-trading firm. If you connected one, you may also want to revoke RETICLE's access from that provider's own settings.

11. Children

RETICLE is not intended for anyone under the age of majority in their province or country of residence, and is intended only for adults engaged in trading-related activity. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Users outside Canada

RETICLE is operated from Canada and its data is stored in the United States. If you access RETICLE from outside Canada, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with your local laws. By using RETICLE, you consent to your information being transferred to and processed in Canada and the United States, which may have different data-protection laws than your country.

13. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of RETICLE after a change means you accept the updated policy.
