Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 10, 2026
RETICLE ("RETICLE," "we," "us," or "our") is a trading-discipline and journaling platform operated by J.E. Walsh, based in Alberta, Canada. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use and protect it, and the rights you have over it.
We are committed to handling your personal information in accordance with Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and Alberta's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). This policy is written to be clear and straightforward. If anything here is unclear, contact us using the details at the end.
By creating an account or using RETICLE, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this policy.
1. Who we are and how to reach us
RETICLE is operated by J.E. Walsh (Alberta, Canada). For any privacy question, request, or complaint, our designated privacy contact is:
Privacy Officer — RETICLE Email: privacy@reticletrade.com
We are responsible for the personal information under our control and will respond to privacy requests as required by applicable Canadian law.
2. What personal information we collect
We collect only the information we need to provide the platform. Today, that includes:
Information you give us when you create an account
- Email address
- Full name
- Display name (the name shown on your RETICLE profile)
- Country
- A password (which we store only as a securely hashed value — we never store your password in readable form)
- Your communication preferences (for example, whether you opt in to product updates)
Information you create while using RETICLE
- Trade plans, setups, and checklist entries
- Journal entries and post-trade notes
- Trading accounts you set up within RETICLE for record-keeping and the data associated with them
- Discipline-related data and scores that the platform generates from how you use it
Information collected automatically for security and operation
- Basic technical and log information needed to operate the service securely and reliably (for example, authentication session data and standard server logs). We use this to keep your account secure and to keep the platform running — not to build advertising profiles.
We do not currently run third-party web analytics or advertising trackers on RETICLE. If this changes, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent before such tracking begins.
3. Information we do not collect (and features that are not yet active)
To be transparent about what RETICLE does and does not do today:
Payments. RETICLE does not currently charge for accounts and does not collect payment or credit-card information. If we introduce paid plans in the future, payments will be handled by a third-party payment processor (such as Stripe). In that case, the processor — not RETICLE — would collect and process your card details under its own security standards, and we would not store your full card number. We will update this policy before any paid feature launches.
Brokerage connections (planned, not yet active). A future version of RETICLE is intended to let you connect your own account at a broker or proprietary-trading firm so that RETICLE can place trades that you plan, on your own account, at your direction. This feature is not active today, and we do not currently collect or store any brokerage credentials. When this feature is introduced, we will update this policy to explain exactly what is collected, how credentials are protected, and what you are authorizing — and you will choose whether to connect an account.
We describe these here so you have a complete picture of the product's direction, but neither involves any data collection today.
4. How we use your information
We use your personal information to:
- Create and manage your account and authenticate you securely
- Provide the platform's core features — planning, discipline tracking, and journaling
- Maintain the security and integrity of the service
- Respond to your questions and support requests
- Send you service-related messages (for example, account or security notices)
- Send product updates or other non-essential messages only if you have opted in, and you can opt out at any time
- Comply with our legal obligations
We use your information only for the purposes described in this policy, or for purposes you would reasonably consider consistent with them. If we ever want to use it for a materially different purpose, we will ask for your consent first.
5. Consent
We collect, use, and disclose your personal information with your consent. By creating an account and providing your information, you consent to the handling described in this policy. For sensitive information or new purposes, we will seek your express consent.
You may withdraw your consent at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. To withdraw consent, contact our Privacy Officer. Note that withdrawing consent for information that is necessary to operate your account may mean we can no longer provide the service to you.
6. How we share information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.
We share information only in these limited circumstances:
- Service providers. We use trusted third-party providers to host and operate RETICLE (see "Where your information is stored" below). They may process your information only to provide services to us, under obligations to protect it.
- Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or a lawful government request, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of RETICLE, our users, or others.
- Business transfer. If RETICLE is involved in a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this policy.
Affiliate links. RETICLE displays links to proprietary-trading firms, some of which are affiliate links. If you click one and sign up with that firm, we may earn a commission. When you click an affiliate link, you leave RETICLE and any information you then provide is handled by that firm under its privacy policy, not ours. We do not share your RETICLE account information with those firms.
7. Where your information is stored (cross-border transfer)
RETICLE uses service providers located in the United States to host the platform and store data:
- Database hosting: Neon (data stored in the United States, on Amazon Web Services infrastructure)
- Application hosting: Vercel (United States)
This means your personal information is stored and processed in the United States. By using RETICLE, you acknowledge that your information is transferred to and stored in the United States, where it may be accessible to U.S. courts, law-enforcement agencies, and regulatory authorities under U.S. law. We rely on these providers' security practices and contractual protections to safeguard your information while it is in their care.
If you have questions about cross-border storage, contact our Privacy Officer.
8. How we protect your information
We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information, including:
- Storing passwords only as securely hashed values, never in plain text
- Encrypted connections (HTTPS) for data in transit
- Access controls that limit who can reach the underlying systems
- Reliance on reputable hosting providers with their own security programs
No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach involving your personal information that poses a real risk of significant harm, we will notify you and the appropriate authorities as required by PIPEDA and Alberta PIPA.
9. How long we keep your information
We keep your personal information only as long as needed for the purposes described here — generally, for as long as you maintain an account, plus a reasonable period afterward to meet legal, security, or record-keeping requirements. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or de-identify it. You can ask us to delete your account and associated data (see "Your rights" below).
10. Your rights
Under Canadian privacy law, you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete
- Withdraw consent to our use of your information (subject to the limits noted above)
- Request deletion of your account and associated personal information
- Ask questions about how your information is handled, and make a complaint
To exercise any of these rights, contact our Privacy Officer at privacy@reticletrade.com. We will respond within the timeframes required by law. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta.
11. Children
RETICLE is not intended for anyone under the age of majority in their province or country of residence, and is intended only for adults engaged in trading-related activity. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
12. Users outside Canada
RETICLE is operated from Canada and its data is stored in the United States. If you access RETICLE from outside Canada, you do so on your own initiative and are responsible for compliance with your local laws. By using RETICLE, you consent to your information being transferred to and processed in Canada and the United States, which may have different data-protection laws than your country.
13. Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you. Your continued use of RETICLE after a change means you accept the updated policy.
